Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed he has been seeking advice from Arsene Wenger on how to navigate a title-winning campaign.
The Gunners are currently leading the Premier League by a single point, albeit with Manchester City having a game in hand, with only four matches left to play.
Last season, Arteta’s side let slip a seven-point lead in the final stages of the season, something the Spaniard is keen to avoid this time around.
In order to prevent any further setbacks, Arteta has turned to Wenger for guidance as he seeks to stop City from winning a fourth successive English top-flight title.
Shedding light on such conversations, the Arsenal boss said: “There are moments that are very important in our history and I am sure that a lot of players know about it. It’s about making our own history now.
He continued: “I have spoken to him (Wenger) a few times. There were certain topics about how they won it and the later stages. He used to talk about that when I was a player. It is always there in the hard drive.
“For this time of the season, at the end, it is about finding a way to win the game. And that is it. You can do it in various ways when you look at how they won the titles.
And how they won certain games with very very, very close margins. He always talked about that, about the fine margins, and who is going to step up on the occasion to make it happen.
Arsenal thrashed London rivals Chelsea 5-0 on Tuesday to remain in the hunt for the title, but their 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa a fortnight ago has ensured the reigning champions are in control of the situation.
Liverpool, meanwhile, appear all but out of contention after recent defeats against Everton and Crystal Palace, though Arteta insists it is not only a two-horse race.
The 42-year-old remarked: “I don’t think so [Liverpool being out of the race]. This league is tremendously demanding and there can be still a lot of turns. We know what we have to do to win this league.”
